Matteo Berrettini for yet another year failed to shed the Miami curse a tournament in which he has participated thrice without ever recording a single win. He lost to Mackenzie McDonald in R64 in straight sets double tiebreaker (7-6, 7-6).
Apart from the United Cup, for Italian it is the fourth defeat of the season. Berrettini was forced to skip the entire clay season last year because of a racquet hand (right) wrist injury and thus won’t have any ranking points to defend until French Open.
Berrettini now vows to get some important points at the European clay swing to get good seeding ahead of Roland Garros.
Jacopo Berrettini criticized those criticizing his bother…
Melissa Satta joined Berrettini last week at Floridian Masters and was present in the player box in his game against McDonald. The relationship between the two has generated different opinions and divided the fans with many being rude towards the hard hitting Italian which Jacopo think is disrespectful and unjustified.
In an exclusive interview with OA Sport here is what Jacopo said: “I think he replied with a very recent interview and there is not much to say or add to what he said. It seems to me very bad and disrespectful to question something that is very beautiful, because we know how beautiful a human relationship or a relationship like that can be.
Surely his work leads him to expose himself a little more. I don’t feel like saying anything other than what he said. Everything he’s experiencing isn’t affecting his tennis, but rather other things, one of them being his injuries.
These things are mentioned too little. I’m happy for him that he has this relationship, the rest counts for little.”
Berrettini is set to open his clay campaign at Monte Carlo Masters in the second week of April.
