Stefanos Tsitsipas Consistently ‘not good enough’ at US Open

Stefanos Tsitsipas couldn’t help yet another disappointing run at the US Open and rumors had it that he is splitting with Mark Philippoussis – whom he regrouped with earlier in August – after the early exit at the season-ending slam.

Tsitsipas sustained an out of the blue five set, 5-7 7-6(2) 7-6(5) 6(6)-7 3-6 loss against Swiss qualifier Dominic Stricker in the R2.

The Greek recently reignited his relationship with the Australian coach and despite the rumors suggesting another split between the two, the #7 seed blamed nothing but him for the loss that came in tiring four hours.

“By no means I’m supposed to put any blame on any people or any members of my team,” said Tsitsipas. “Everything on court is under my control and under my talents, and the way I can play this sport are shown out on the court. If I’m not able to deliver, then I’m not supposed to be doing well.

“That’s what happened this summer. I was not good enough to deliver and score good results. I won’t blame it on anything.

“It’s just a poor performance after Los Cabos. Had a tough transition to Toronto where I dealt with really bad jet lag that I never had such kind of experience on tour. Had a very difficult match against Gael [Monfils],” said 2023 finalist at Melbourne Park.

Despite only managing to win two of his last five matches, the 25-year-old tried to be optimistic about the future course.

“It was just pure competition. My opponent showed better tennis than I did. I want to congratulate him, because, you know, I consider myself a good player, and I don’t want to be a person that can be beaten easily or I’m giving my opponents easy time on the court against me,” explained the ATP No.7.

Tsitsipas added, “I try to make it as hard as I can, and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. I move on with my life. Hopefully I can get better in the future.”

Although his singles campaign has once again suffered an abrupt end, the New York major is not completely over for the two-time Slam finalist, as he will be in action alongside his brother, Petros in the doubles draw at Flushing Meadows.
