Victoria Azarenka Highlights Djokovic’s Most Underrated Quality

WTA star Victoria Azarenka congratulated Novak Djokovic after a successful title defense and record-breaking performance at 2023 ATP Finals in Turin.

Two-time Grand Slam singles titlist outlined the Serb’s ability to “elevate his level of play and determination to win no matter what” after a loss as the most underrated trait in tennis.

Djokovic came up with a tennis clinic to overcome ATP #4 Jannik Sinner 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the ATP Finals in Turin on Sunday. His latest win saw him get one better of rival Roger Federer who jointly shared the 6-title haul of year-end Championships with the legendary Serbian.

After losing the round-robin contest against local hope Jannik Sinner, the World No. 1 made the maximum out of his reprieve to down the Italian – who remained unbeatable in the group stage – 6-3, 6-3 in a breathtaking show of skills and tactics as he sealed his 7th title to set a new record on the ATP tour.

The 24-time Grand Slam stood solid to bounce back against Pole Hubert Hurkacz in the last group game as he won the enthralling 3-set battle and went on to drop just 11 games against Alcaraz and Sinner combine in semifinal and final.

Djokovic talking in the press conference after final, assessed his performances against the top young guns as the two best matches he has played this year.

The 36-year-old’s has been remarkably unstoppable after his heartbreaking loss against Carlos Alcaraz in the classic five-set Wimbledon final, with the ATP bagging the next four tournaments after the defeat.

Since Wimbledon in July, Djokovic has earned titles at the Cincinnati Masters, the US Open, the Paris Masters and last week’s ATP Finals in an extended win streak that broke against the 22-year Italian in the round-robin loss at the year-end ATP Finals in Turin.

In a post share on X (formerly Twitter), Azarenka highlighted the way Djokovic is able to react to losses and improve him game is unmatched on the tour but still taken for granted by others.

“Novak’s ability after a loss to elevate his level of play and determination to win no matter what is the most underrated thing in my opinion I have seen in tennis! Congratulations on another record breaking performance @DjokerNole,” wrote the 34-year-old Belarusian WTA star.

Azarenka who is currently ranked WTA #22, won the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013 and recorded runner-up finishes at the US Open in 2012, 2013 and 2020. Djokovic will look to add one last title to his 2023 resume by participating at the 2023 Davis Cup Final 8 knockout stage in Malaga this week as he will represent Serbia in the ITF team event.
