Carlos Alcaraz believes Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner have weak points but admitted they are very difficult to find because they are very small.
Alcaraz described his rival Sinner as a very comfortable player while expressing hope to battle the Italian rival for the ATP #1 rank throughout their careers. Sinner recently took over Alcaraz to become #2 in the world while Djokovic reigns supreme as World No. 1 for over 420 weeks now.
The Spaniard world #3 holds a 2-3 record against Djokovic while his head-to-head against Sinner is at 4-4. He became youngest player in ATP history to become ATP #1 after clinching his maiden GS title at the 2022 US Open. Alcaraz last stint as World No. 1 came to an end at the 2023 US Open in September where he was dethroned by 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic. He was then taken over by the 2024 Australian Open champion, Sinner who got his career high rank of world #2.
Alcaraz then put an end to his 8-month title draught after a successful defense at the Indian Wells Masters last month. The 20-year-old who has a 15-4 record in 2024 had to pull out from back to back events of Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona Open because of an arm injury.
Talking to La Vanguardia, the 2-time Grand Slam champion expressed his desire to have a career-long rivalry with Sinner at the top of the rankings as he addressed his recent drop to the ATP #3.
“You play good tennis but maybe it’s not enough to repeat the ranking from the previous year,” he said.
“You defend points, you play against yourself, you need the same results as last year, and you also have to beat your rivals. It is complex, of course.
“I hope we have that battle, him one and me two, and then vice versa. That will make me improve.”
Alcaraz then claimed that even his two biggest rivals have weaknesses when asked what he does in practice trouble Sinner.
“I keep them to myself, but he (Sinner) is a very complete player. Everyone has weak points, Djokovic too, although it seems not. The difficult thing is to find them, because they are very small,” asserted Alcaraz.
Sinner has lost four matches since 2023 US Open and has been in glittering form this year having 3 titles to his name already including the Australian Open crown as he registers a 25-2 record in his 2024 tennis calendar. While Djokovic has not had the usual start after losing at Melbourne Park against Sinner. The 36-year-old legendary Serbian possesses 11-4 record and is yet to play a final this season.
