Veteran tennis coach Rick Macci thinks Novak Djokovic has “at least four” Grand Slams in him after winning his 24th major title at the 2023 US Open.
Macci, a legendary tennis coach called Djokovic as “the rubber band man” and pointed out that staying physically fit will be the key for Serbian to clinch more majors.
The American has been involved with five players who reached the coveted #1 spot on their tours including Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick. His former charge also include Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin, Anastasia Myskina and Mary Pierce.
Djokovic sealed a men’s record-extending 24th major after defeating Daniil Medvedev at the Flushing Meadows earlier in September. The Serbian leads his rival Nadal by two majors and Roger Federer by four.
The 36-year-old also clinched three of four majors this year and was only one match short of earning the most coveted calendar slam as he lost a five set epic against Alcaraz at SW19. It is the fourth season for Djokovic where he has won three of four slams in a calendar – a men’s record.
An upbeat Macci took to twitter to suggest that the legendary Serbian can at least extend his major haul by four, if he stays healthy.
“Was asked how many more Slams can the @DjokerNole win. If the rubber band man stays healthy which is the master key to the majors front door I feel the Serbian sniper can fire at least four more,” said the American.
Talking to Sportskeeda in June, Macci explained that he picks Djokovic over Nadal and Federer in GOAT debate.
“As I tell everybody, [Roger] Federer looked the best, Rafa ground the best, but ‘Djoker’ is the best. And remember, he didn’t play a few of these Grand Slams because of the pandemic because of the vaccine mandates,” assessed the 68-year-old.
Djokovic led Serbia at the Davis Cup Finals group stage matchup in Valencia previous week and defeated home hope Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 on Friday as he contributed in the elimination of hosts Spain and guided his squad to the quarters of the event team, where Great Britain is waiting for them.
The World No. 1 has pulled out of next month’s Shanghai Open that falls in Asian hardcourt swing.
