Doing Nothing Wrong Djokovic is Wimbledon favorite, Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has given his verdict as who in his eyes is favorite for the Wimbledon and that is very obviously 23-time Grand Slam Champion Novak Djokovic.

Spaniard who has clinched his maiden grass court title at Queen’s Club to regain the ATP #1 throne is extra motivated to face Novak in Wimbledon after losing against the Roland Garros semifinal tie against the Serb in four sets.

Despite heading into The Championships as top seed, Alcaraz is very realistic about his chances and feels that it would not be an easy task to face the 7-time Wimbledon Champion. When asked about what is so challenging about facing the Serb, he replied:

“I would say the pressure that they put to everyone. Not only to me, to everyone to play at their best for three hours in a Grand Slam,” explained Alcaraz. “I have to deal with that, but it’s something that I really want it. I hope to play a final here against him.”

Djokovic has collected last four Gentlemen’s singles trophies at SW19 and Alcaraz is in awe of his prowess at the grass.

“He moves really well. He hits the ball really well, really clearly. He has a clean shot. It’s a mix of everything,” said Alcaraz. “I would say he doesn’t do anything wrong. He always makes really easy everything. It’s really tough to find some weakness on his game.”

Even though he is entering the Championships as the #1 seed for the first time, the Spaniard is not feeling much pressure, “Well, honestly, I don’t feel too much pressure about being No.1.”

“I know what I have to do. For me it’s to play, play my best, try to win tournaments. I don’t think about being No.1 too much. I’m trying to put out all that pressure,” he added.

Alcaraz will kick off his Wimbledon campaign on Tuesday against 36-year old French veteran Jeremy Chardy to record their first paring on the tour.

Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz Head-to-Head

While everybody vouches for a meeting between Novak and Alcaraz at the majors, the duo have only faced each other on two occasions to the date and have split the winnings between them. In their first meeting at Mardid Open Semifinal in 2022, Alcaraz beat Djokovic in three sets. The second meeting was Novak’s classic at a Slam as he tamed Alcaraz in four sets to register a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory at French major in semis to eventually book a final with Casper Ruud.
